Steve Jobs was famously quoted as saying, “Real artists ship.” What he meant by this was that everyone has ideas, but real artists deliver on them or ship them, as he put it.

I fully agree with this point of view. But it does encourage people to think that shipping has to be completing a huge project or some monumental change programme.

From my perspective, I consider shipping to be a daily ritual. It’s about finishing what you start and not allowing the Resistance to stop you, even when the tide turns.

Some of the things you ship may be large in size or scale but it doesn’t always have to be the case. Unless you commit to shipping on a smaller scale, you won’t have the discipline to keep going when it comes to the mighty ship.

Be a real artist.

Ship.

All the time.
