Maintaining your grace when others are losing theirs is a fundamental trait of successful leaders.
It’s magical thinking to believe that we will float through our lives without experiencing setbacks or coming up against problems.
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t So how can we maintain our grace under pressure.
First, we need to focus on the situation rather than ourselves. Doing this helps remove the emotion and makes it less personal.
Next, we need to think about how we can help. As I’ve written about before, a helpful mentality is key to producing endorphins and other positive chemicals in our brains that mean we won’t get carried away with the situation.
Finally, be a good summariser. Perfecting this skill means we need to step outside of the emotion and helps reinforce the feeling of control.
