There is a fine line between developing collaborative relationships and playing politics.
The arbiter of which side of the line you are on comes down to authenticity.
If you would be happy for your actions to be played out in public then go for it. But if you would cringe if others were to hear your words then perhaps your actions are setting you up for a career in the Houses of Parliament.
Building strong relationships is a long term strategy that helps you grow your influence.
Politics is a short term approach that undermines your credibility.
Like most things the short term approach is always attractive.
Those behind the scenes manipulations might help you get what you want on a particular project; but they will ultimately embarrass you as each act becomes harder to layer with another.
Open up your eyes….don’t be a politik!
