“Think about the future!” Opined Shaun Ryder in this 90s indie classic. Quite ironic considering, throughout his chaotic life, Ryder doesn’t appear to have ever thought about what might happen tomorrow!

I am a big believer in planning for the future but I also know that too much thinking about what could happen next creates anxiety.

At the same time, whilst thinking about the past helps us to learn from our mistakes, too much reflection can lead to depression.

Some say the answer lies in living in the present. I agree to a point but without reflection and planning we will just float from one situation to the next without direction and never improving.

Surely the answer lies in striving for balance. Taking learning from our successes and failures, constantly assessing where we want to go next whilst enjoying the time we have with the people we love.
