As a leader we are judged less about the tasks that we complete and more about the atmosphere that we create.
So, how do we create the right atmosphere?
Set the tone. The atmosphere is shaped by how we act. If we value honesty then we need to be honest, all the time. If we don’t we will create a toxic atmosphere where the tone is set by how people talk behind our back.
Prioritise. What we focus on creates the atmosphere we want to create. If we want to drive customer service we need to make that the focal point of our metrics and our conversations. If we don’t prioritise on a few key priorities, the atmosphere will be dreary and bland.
Communicate. We must use every opportunity to reinforce the atmosphere we want to create by communicating passionately and in detail. Do this well and the atmosphere will flow through our teams.
