I started to write this post a week ago and then we had a few days of freak snow, such is the random nature of the weather in the UK these days.

Anyway, after a couple of days of nice weather I’m going to chance my arm and celebrate the benefits of a bit of sunshine!

Through a quick Google search you can bring up any number of sites quoting pretty generic lists about the benefits of some light sun exposure. What they don’t talk about though is how it makes you feel.

For me this comes in three parts.

  1. Waking up with the Sun streaming though my curtains is a great encouragement to not roll over and snooze for a little longer. I find I am able to spring out of bed earlier which gives me more time in a morning to do the things that I want to do and prepare for the day ahead.
  2. Looking out of my office window in the lead up to lunchtime and seeing the Sun streaming down puts a huge smile on my face. Rather than trudging out into the cold, rain and wind I find I am almost bounding out of the office for my lunchtime run.
  3. In the darker Winter months, getting home from work almost feels like it is the end of the day as we cocoon ourselves up for the evening. When the Sun is shining it feels like there are more hours in the day to enjoy. Whether it is a trip to the park, a bike ride or a walk in the countryside, things just feel better.

 

Here comes the Sun.

And I say it’s alright!
