Andy Murray has just become the men’s No. 1 ranked tennis player in the game. In getting to the pinnacle of the sport he has made sacrifice after sacrifice and pushed himself to maximise all of his talents. It really is a tale of perseverance.

Murray has the unwanted record of being player who has lost the most Grand Slam finals. After every defeat he could have believed his critics and doubters who said he wasn’t good enough.

His tears after being beaten in the 2012 Wimbledon final only to come back and win Gold at the London Olympics a month later was a real highlight of that Summer.

Since coming back from potentially career ending back surgery in 2013, Murray has fought his way up the rankings and chased down Novak Djokovic session after session, day after day, game after game.

Today he reached one of his targets.

So why this song? What does it have to do with this post?

Well first of all, after a quick Google search it is apparently on Murray’s pre-game playlist but also the incessant mantra of “further, further, further” seems a rather apt accompaniment to his story.

Congratulations Andy Murray!
