Top 10 Albums

If you like the soundtrack to my posts, here’s some of the other music I’m listening to at the moment that you might like…..If you have a suggestion for the Top 10, leave a comment below!

Nothing But Thieves – Graveyard Whistling (EP)

I accidently came across this band and now I’m addicted. Mixing up Radiohead and Muse with a freshness that really hooked me in. “Graveyard Whistling” is a stand out track but all four songs on this EP are excellent.

Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots

When I first listened to this album I thought, “Damon, what have you done?” but within a few plays I was really liking it. 11 amazing tracks but the standout for me is “The Selfish Giant”.

Catfish & The Bottlemen – The Balcony

Britpop brought back to life! An amazing album with great guitars that continue the lineage previously owned by Oasis with invention and lyrics that build on the Arctic Monkeys at their best. Standout track for me is the album opener “Homesick” but it is a hard choice amongst the quality on this album.

Real Estate – Atlas

Chilled out tunes for sunny afternoons. Jangly guitars and blissed out vocals. Perfect for the Summer months and enjoyable at any other time too! “Had to Hear” is the standout track for me but try it for yourself.

The National – Cherry Tree

I missed this album the first time around but then after hearing the song “About Today” at the end of the film Warrior I was hooked so went back and bought the album.

Ayahuasca: Welcome to the Work – Ben Lee

Not his most accessible work like “Awake if the New Sleep” or “Breathing Tornados” but still a great album. I defy anyone not to be entranced by “The Will to Grow”.

Chasing Yesterday – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

Following the slow disintegration of Oasis and the very listenable “AKA….What a Life” comes “Chasing Yesterday”. Great tunes and massive choruses….you know the drill by now surely!

Fingerprints: Best of Powderfinger – Powderfinger

When I was living in Australia in the mid 90s this band were huge. They’ve got quite an enviable back catalogue but if you want to get them at their best choose this album. There are too many brilliant tracks here to single out a standout.

The Night Before – James

After over 30 years in the music business James are still going strong, releasing “The Night Before” and it’s follow up “The Morning After” in quick succession. The standout track for me on this album is the closing track “All My Letters”

Lost Sirens – New Order

I couldn’t really complete this list without having a New Order album on here – my favourite band of all time! “Lost Sirens” was originally billed as a compilation off cuts from the earlier album “Waiting for the Sirens Call” but is so much more in my opinion.
